50 years: TAG Heuer Monza and Patek Philippe Nautilus celebrate anniversary

In the watch year 2026, two true icons will celebrate their 50th anniversary. With the TAG Heuer Monza, a genuine motorsport legend takes center stage, while the Patek Philippe Nautilus is considered one of the most sought-after and at the same time most expensive stainless steel sports watches. Both models were first introduced in 1976 and have not only maintained their exceptional status in the luxury watch segment to this day but have further solidified it.

TAG Heuer Monza as a Motorsport Legend

TAG Heuer Monza
The close connection of TAG Heuer to motorsport is deeply embedded in the DNA of the brand and is reflected in several legendary models. Especially the Carrera and Monza lines are among the most well-known and defining timepieces of the manufacture. They have stood for decades for precision, speed, and the immediate proximity to the racetrack.
The TAG Heuer Monza originally emerged as a tribute to the world championship title of Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda in 1975. Just one year later, a watch was released that immediately became a distinctive eye-catcher with its black, PVD-coated case. Especially the early versions quickly became coveted collector's items and still enjoy cult status among lovers of sporty Chronographs.

The current models present themselves with great attention to detail and are consistently focused on sporty performance. The new TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronometer appears as an exclusive special edition with a 42-millimeter case made of ultra-light and at the same time extremely durable carbon. It combines three functions essential for motorsport: a precise Chronographs as well as a tachymeter scale to determine the average speed over a distance of one kilometer or one mile.

Patek Philippe Nautilus: A Classic of Distinction

The Patek Philippe Nautilus also looks back on fifty years of history. Its birth took place in 1976 when the design by Gérald Genta was created and the watch immediately caused a sensation. As a sporty timepiece from the house of Patek Philippe, it represented a deliberate break with the conventions of haute horlogerie at the time with a diameter of 42 millimeters and the use of stainless steel, attracting great attention in the luxury watch segment.

To this day, the appearance of the Patek Philippe Nautilus has hardly changed. The distinctive case with its side hinges as well as the gently rounded, octagonal bezel are among the unmistakable design features of the watch. According to legend, the shape is inspired by the portholes of the submarine Nautilus from Jules Verne's novel "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea".

Today, the Nautilus is considered one of the most sought-after luxury watches worldwide and is almost inseparably linked to value appreciation. Selected references easily exceed the one hundred thousand euro mark on the market and sometimes significantly surpass it.
