The Breitling Montbrillant is a wonderful symbiosis of vintage and the latest technology. The exciting watch combines typical features of the Navitimer, but knows how to inspire with its own design language. The look of the 1940s and 1950s was deliberately chosen to give the Breitling Montbrillant a unique selling point. This extraordinary watch was manufactured by Breitling between 1996 and 2018 and is available in case sizes from 38 mm to 42 mm for men and women.
The proximity to the Breitling Navitimer is unmistakable, yet it is the loving details that make a Breitling Montbrillant so unique. The Breitling Montbrillant has a small, screw-down case with a diameter of just 36.5 mm and a 38 mm bezel. The slide rule also symbolises the "scientific" functions of the chronographs from the 1940s. The sub-dials are typically tone-on-tone, and the Montbrillant complements the overall visual structure with a red central seconds display.
The striking design of the watch features hour and minute counters as well as running seconds in a 6/9/12 layout and luminous leaf hands. The interplay of all the individual components has resulted in a technically highly sophisticated watch.
Of course, the Breitling Montbrillant has not become a coveted collector's item. The unique and rare models in particular are sought after by enthusiasts. These most likely include the Montbrillant Eclipse (reference A43030), which has a moon phase display at 6 o'clock. The Montbrillant Datora (reference A21330), which displays the day of the week and month in a window below 12 o'clock, is also a rarity.
The most complex watch is the Montbrillant 1461 Jours (reference A19030), which is equipped with a stopwatch function and slide rule bezel and also has a moon phase and perpetual calendar.The Montbrillant Légende, on the other hand, stands out due to its size. While most Breitling Montbrillant watches range in case size from 38 mm to 42 mm, the Légende stands out clearly at 47 mm.
The discontinuation of production in 2018 has automatically increased the value of the Breitling Montbrillant among collectors. Rare and very well-preserved examples in particular can achieve very good prices. An entry-level price of €2,500 is quite realistic for classic models. However, chronographs with a date display or equipped with a moon phase or full calendar in particular cost between €5,000 and €8,000.
