Watch straps at Zeitauktion – What is behind it?

In this blog post, we would like to introduce you to the quality of our leather straps from the brands Kaufmann and Fluco and show you how much time and care goes into the production and quality of these straps.

Handmade Masterpieces

We have carefully selected our items and decided on a diverse range, allowing you to find the right Watch strap for yourself. Our offered straps are made from various materials such as alligator, calf, and shell cordovan (horse). The vintage straps are made from high-quality cowhide leather. The handmade straps are especially skin-friendly.

From the selection of the leather to punching, hand stitching, and lacquering, the Watch straps are crafted by hand. Trained leatherworkers select the best types of leather and pay special attention to details in the texture. The strap cutting is done by hand punching with a swivel arm punch. Afterwards, each strap is split to achieve, for example, a padding.

The most important step, the hand stitching, is done with two needles and one thread. After each stitch, the thread is tightened. A skilled stitcher creates such a so-called saddler's seam in about half an hour.

Each strap is hand-stitched at the buckle to guarantee one hundred percent security. The adjustable loops are also sewn and lacquered by hand. The edges of each strap are also lacquered by hand. The lacquering ensures the durability of the Watch strap and provides an elegant appearance.

Best Quality for the Perfect Hold

Strict quality criteria determine the manufactories of Kaufmann and Fluco. Thus, it is ensured from the outset that you receive a strap made of excellent material, neatly processed and without defects. Both manufacturers produce their Watch straps 100% in their own workshops in Germany.

To ensure the stability and durability of the Watch straps, the manufacturers use a glass fiber reinforcement at the strap lug and the buckle part. This strengthens the loops around the spring bars and secures the stability of the buckle. For perfect hold and security, additionally, hand-stitched seam ends are knotted with two knots.

The Right Shades for the Eye

The appearance is naturally just as important for choosing a Watch strap as its quality. Therefore, the straps from Kaufmann and Fluco are available not only in a natural matte design but also brilliantly polished.

A white topstitch provides a sporty design, suitable for large, masculine Watch cases. For those who do not like the contrast of a white seam on colored or black straps, there are tone-on-tone Watch straps, i.e., colored straps with matching colored seams.

You also have the choice between padded, i.e., slightly cushioned, and flat Watch straps. You should pay attention to the model of your Watch, as a rather small, flat Watch naturally fits better with a flat strap. For a large Watch case, you should choose a padded strap, as it emphasizes the character of the Watch.

What Does Full Cut Mean?

A large part of our offered Watch straps consists of the coveted alligator leather. Many of these straps carry the additional designation Full Cut, but what does that actually mean? The term "leather from the Full Cut" usually refers to the particularly soft and supple alligator leather that comes from the belly of the animal. The leather has a fine texture at this spot, making it excellent for smaller products like Watch straps. The counterpart is the so-called Back Cut. This leather from the back of the alligator has a much firmer texture and features the animal's scale pattern. Alligator Back-Cut leather is used, among other things, for belts and bags.

Species Protection

Products made from materials of protected animal species such as alligator and crocodile must be clearly marked with a species protection flag (CITES flag). To ensure a seamless proof of origin, the Watch straps are also provided with a CITES flag, which provides information about the country of origin and the reptile species. The tag also shows a CITES number and an IRV number. These confirm flawless products according to species protection regulations.
