Cartier watches increasingly in vogue

Style, elegance, and luxury – these qualities are often associated with Cartier watches. The iconic luxury brand, which belongs to the Swiss luxury goods group Richemont, delights collectors and enthusiasts alike with interesting collections. Already at the beginning of 2024, it is evident that Cartier watches are enjoying growing popularity, impressively demonstrated by the sales figures on zeitauktion.com.

Even the Corona crisis had little impact on the luxury watch segment. Rolex experienced an almost meteoric rise, continuously expanding its position as market leader. In the battle for second place, Omega and Cartier have been engaged in an exciting duel regarding sales figures for several years. Since neither company publishes official numbers, interested parties must rely on studies.

Cartier increases sales figures for luxury watches

Based on the figures from recent years, Cartier was already able to significantly increase the number of watches sold in 2021. While there were around 490,000 watches in 2020, the number rose to around 600,000 the following year. For 2023, an increase to 620,000 watches sold was recorded.

That this trend will continue is already clearly noticeable in the first months of 2024. On the online luxury watch portal zeitauktion.com, Cartier, together with Rolex and Omega, is among the strongest brands with high sales figures.

Decisive could be the shift away from Haute Horlogerie, the high art of watchmaking, towards more mainstream. The drivers of success are watches like the Cartier Santos and Cartier Tank, which increasingly appeal to men with their modern design. Especially the Cartier Santos, with its in-house movement and high-quality craftsmanship, plays a prominent role in Cartier's growth.

Richemont benefits from Cartier growth

Richemont, a company that unites the brands Cartier, IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, A. Lange & Söhne, Montblanc, Roger Dubuis and Baume & Mercier under one roof, also benefits from the positive development. In the first half of the 2023/24 fiscal year, from April to September, Richemont's sales grew by 6.0 percent to 10.2 billion euros. The company generated around 6.9 billion euros in sales with watches.
