Even the later invisible areas of the gears and movements receive elaborate finishing through handcrafted striping or fine perlage. The reason for this extraordinary effort lies in a historical peculiarity of watchmaking: tiny dust particles inside the case move due to the dynamics of the Movement. On perfectly smooth surfaces, they could settle in the bearings. The microscopically fine structure of the traditional finishes acts
like an invisible protective cushion that absorbs these particles and preserves the mechanical Movement for many decades.
