Breitling Chronomat
One of Breitling's most successful watches and collections is the Breitling Chronomat. The basis for the incredible success story of this luxury watch was created in 1941, when the first Chronomat was presented to the public as a pilot's watch with numerous functionalities. In 1984, a new generation of the Chronomat was created, which not only brought radical changes in terms of technology, but also in terms of appearance.
The Swiss watch manufacturer has written numerous success stories throughout its history. Of all the collections that are now on the market, the Chronomat is once again an exception. The striking watch with its perfect design and high level of functionality took the hearts of watch lovers by storm.
Breitling launched the Chronomat on the market in 1941. The legendary slide rule bezel, with which numerous measurements could be taken on the wrist, was of course primarily intended for pilots. The appealing design meant that more and more people wanted to wear the eye-catching watch in everyday life. Some of the functionalities of the watch were transferred to the Breitling Navitimer in 1952, which underwent stylistic modifications as a new watch.
The Breitling Chronomat underwent a significant change on the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary in 1984. There were considerable changes to the exterior and the Chronomat was given the design that modern editions are still based on today. The onion-shaped crown and the four so-called bezel riders should be mentioned in this context. The latter facilitate operation in many ways and can even be operated with gloves. The bezel riders also offer additional protection against knocks and external influences.
Given its early birth, it is hardly surprising that the Breitling Chronomat now comes in a variety of different models. These vary in size, for example, as with the Chronomat 44 (Ref. AB011012 or Ref. AB011610), which are particularly suitable for large wrists. The spectrum ranges from a rather ‘small’ Chronomat 38 to the Chronomat GMT (Ref. AB041012) with 47 mm.
In terms of materials, dial colours and other external features, there is hardly a facet of the Breitling Chronomat that has not been addressed.
If you are looking for unusual watches in the range, the Super Chronomat Automatic 38 could do you a favour. This watch is available with dials in blue, green or cream and is in the higher price segment. Collectors also love the Breitling Chronomat Evolution or the Lockheed SR-71 ‘Blackbird’, which also exemplifies the close connection between Breitling and aeronautics.
The Chronomat from Breitling impresses with its diversity in terms of technical aspects and appearance. It is therefore hardly surprising that there are models for an entry-level price starting at €1,500 and the upper limit is more likely to be found at €15,000. Due to the high sales figures, a Breitling Chronomat is not exactly a rarity, but nevertheless enjoys great popularity.
