The Schaffhausen watch factory was founded in 1868 by the American engineer Florenca A. Jones, who sold the company in 1875 to the Swiss Johannes Rauschenbach. Rauschenbach's heirs succeeded in further establishing the company and safely guiding it through the first decades of the 20th century. The company is considered one of the most renowned Swiss watch manufacturers.
